Before we begin, remember to preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit and generously butter a 10-cup cake pan.

Step 1: Cream the butter and sugar. In a large mixing bowl, beat together 2 cups of unsalted butter and 4 cups of granulated sugar until they are light and fluffy, which should take around 5-7 minutes.

Step 2: Add the eggs. Next, add 8 large eggs into the mixture one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Step 3: Add the flour mixture. In another bowl, sift together 3 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of baking powder. Gradually add this to the butter mixture, alternating with 1 cup of sweet milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

Step 4: Add the vanilla extract. Stir in 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract until well combined into the batter.

Step 5: Pour into the pan and bake. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth out the top using a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.

Step 6: Cool and serve. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for around 20 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
